Factorio's factories and alien creatures are making the jump from screen to shelf. Prusa announced the game's official arrival on Printables on September 24, and developer Wube shared its own account on September 25. The release includes 15 model sets containing 65 individual models across 247 STL files. Read Prusa's announcement and Wube's development story.
What's in the collection?
The initial selection focuses on the early game, with models including transport belts, inserters, chests, a stone furnace, the player character, and alien enemies. Wube explains that many designs have two versions: one for a tighter push-fit assembly and another with extra clearance for gluing or accommodating printer differences.
You can find the releases through Wube Software's official Printables profile. The headline counts describe the launch collection, rather than 247 different creatures or machines.
Why the design work is interesting
Wube's artists describe reworking game assets for physical printing, including splitting machinery into parts to reduce support needs and adapting creatures so support marks would be less visible. That's a useful glimpse into the work between a digital design and a model you can hold. Wube's article shows the prototypes and explains those decisions.
Our tabletop take
For miniature hobbyists, the fun is in composing a scene. A short stretch of machinery, a lone character, and an approaching creature could make a compact display with an obvious story. Pick a focal point first, then add enough surrounding detail to explain what's happening.
The collection also offers a reason to think about assembly while planning a paint scheme. Before starting a project, read the individual model's instructions and check its intended size and fit. This is a news report based on the official announcements; we haven't tested these files or reviewed their print quality.
