Lychee Slicer 8.0.0 was released on September 24, with a rebuilt application and new tools for preparing models. The official changelog highlights assembly keys, revised automatic orientation, editable hollowing, and internal supports.
Three changes to look at
- Assembly keys: tools for creating alignment features between separate printed parts.
- Automatic orientation: a new algorithm intended to reduce overhanging area; Lychee says this is also available in the Free edition.
- Internal supports: support generation inside hollowed areas, with controls for interior and exterior scope.
These are announced capabilities, not results from our own testing. Check the release notes and your plan's feature availability before changing an established workflow.
Our take: test one familiar project
For a hobbyist evaluating new software, a model you already know can be more informative than the most elaborate file in the library. Choose a modest project and write down the task you want to make easier before opening it.
You might compare how quickly you can prepare a multipart creature, how clearly you can inspect a joint, or how easy it is to return to yesterday's work. Keep those questions separate from whether the final sculpt looks exciting.
Save a copy of the original project and record the settings used in each comparison. Change one part of the process at a time, then inspect the result before preparing a whole batch. A short note about what helped is useful when the next campaign project comes along.
