Prusa introduced its Prusament PLA ColorMix range on September 8. The official announcement describes a five-color system intended to produce 45 shades on a suitable multicolor setup.
How the color effect works
ColorMix alternates filament colors in layers so they blend visually. The new PLA set uses cyan, magenta, yellow, white, and black, with controlled translucency intended to improve that effect. This is a filament-printing approach, rather than a process for coloring liquid resin.
Prusa notes that geometry and print orientation affect the result. The announcement includes preparation guidance and sample projects; we have not tested the new filaments ourselves.
Our take: start with a useful tabletop accessory
A simple object with a clear purpose makes a satisfying hobby experiment. Consider a set of objective tokens, a display label, or a small organizer for the things that always go missing during a session.
Sketch the intended palette first. Pick one main color and one accent, then decide what the accent communicates. It might distinguish player supplies from shared supplies, mark a particular campaign location, or make a frequently used token easier to spot.
Try your idea on one piece before committing to a matching set. Put the finished sample on the actual game table, under the lighting you normally use. Can everyone tell it apart from the surrounding scenery? Does the label remain readable from a seat away? Those are useful design checks whatever printing method you use.
Choose the project around what you want it to do, then assess the equipment and materials it needs. For the announced range, compatible workflow, and examples, see Prusa's ColorMix launch details.
